I have to be in the right mood for it, but over the years I've collected nearly everything the man wrote in the Horror genre, and had an absolute blast reading and reviewing it.
I am not at all anywhere near his target demographic politically or religiously, yet I love his stuff. Nobody does hardcore right-wing Guns 'n' Jesus schtick like Johnstone, but though he was absolutely and utterly sincere in his political stance, his books read like somebody on the opposite side of the political spectrum was writing parody of said political stance. He did it until Zebra started paying him, and then he just did it faster and harder.
Johnstone was that special breed of man, a guy who just hit typewriter keys with his groin until novels fell out. They only get funnier the more serious he tries to take everything. Insane, ludicrous, preachy as a Jack Chick tract and three to four times as hilarious. They're like direct-to-streaming B-tier junk food. I've read numerous Johnstone horror novels in my life.
